There is certainly much discussion (and misinformation) out there when it comes to the use of essential oils during pregnancy. The fact of the matter is, essential oils can be used to effectively treat many of the common difficulties & discomforts that often arise during pregnancy.

However, before you go out buying the whole Aromatherapy aisle, there are a few very important factors that must be considered before using any essential oils during pregnancy:

1. Quality & Purity

Not all essential oils are created equal, using essential oils of inferior quality or compromised purity could lead to health risks. To learn how to ensure you’re working with pure, high quality essential oils, check out these tips.

2. Some are safe, some are not

Aromatherapy is not ‘one size fits all’, and this is especially true during pregnancy. While some essential oils are perfectly safe, others are definitely not. By the same token, every pregnancy is unique and sweeping advice cannot be given on this sensitive subject.

Seek the advice of a Professional Aromatherapist before using essential oils during pregnancy.

Okay, now for the fun stuff; 4 ways essential oils can help you during pregnancy!

1. Sleep

A concern we often hear from pregnant women: “I’m having difficulty sleeping!”
With so much going on in your body and your mind, it’s not surprising or unusual. At the same time, growing a baby takes a lot of extra energy! You need your sleep, and luckily, essential oils are an extremely effective natural sleep aid. Here’s our favourite recipe:

With all of the changes coming your way, it’s only natural to feel stressed and overwhelmed at times. Essential oils can be used to balance uneasy emotions; via the olfactory receptors, as they have a direct effect on our brains! The intoxicating aroma of the Neroli may not only calm your anxieties and ease your mind, it will surround you with a wonderful aroma that others can also be drawn to.
